OUGD505 - WORKSHOP

In todays session we had to analyse our products in terms of the different stock, processes etc. I didn't really find this session that helpful to b honest, non of the products I brought in were things I could see myself producing for this project. I found it difficult to find items at home that I really liked.

5 THINGS I DONT KNOW ABOUT MY PRODUCTS

1) How has the rizla packet been put together on a large scale rather than hand crafting?

2) How has the Playstation game case been constructed on a mass scale, as there are different components needed to make the finished product?

3) How has the Spot Varnishing & Embossing been done on the DVD case on a large scale

4) How do you screen print then de-boss accurately, how is this done?

5) How has the DVD been put together, what Nets can be used?

5 PROCESSES I WANT TO FIND OUT ABOUT

1) How has the rizla been embossed and foiled on a large scale

2) How does spot varnishing work. What are the possibilities?

3) What are the possibilities of screen printing with various spot colours. What effects can be achieved?

4) How are Hologram stickers made?

5) What book binding methods are available, what are the benefits?

DVD CASE WHY IT IS BAD

The stock is of an OK quality how ever it is pretty worn an tattered now, maybe card isn't the best Idea for game cases, however it is a LTD edition game, but they could of used a stronger more durable stock

The plastic Inserts need to be secured better so that the Case does't fall apart

Could be quite expensive to produce, they have used quite a few different processes.

Card is not the mopst protective material, it could get water damaged etc.

DVD CASE WHY IT IS GOOD

It is a much more interesting net than normal DVD cases, it has a bonus disk and an added booklet of Game design artwork. Much more personal

They have used spot varnish to make the title Pop out, This gives a shine to the cover and draws you in.

It represents the content well, and works throughout even down to the imagery on the disks themselves.

Creative sticker added to the cover, givs the impression of embossing at first glance.
