Preflighting
In todays workshop with Mike we were put into groups to work on a document that had 8 things wrong with it. Using the techniques that we had previously taught we set about looking for the errors. After checking the colour modes and links panel we managed to identify what was wrong.
- Unused swatches - this can be fixed by deleting them out of the swatches.
- The Tree file had a missing link - you could find the missing link on the computer manually by double clicking on the missing link
- The front page did not extend into the bleed - extend manually
- Images on page 2 have been saved in the wrong colour mode. One of the photos was in RGB - This can be changed by re-saving it in photoshop in the right colour mode or right clicking in Indesign and changing the colour mode
- Bird 3 is in RGB colour mode
- Bird 5 has been saved at 72ppi rather than 300ppi - if this was for a client you would have to ask the client for a high res image.
- Link on the back page had been printed in every colour including registration colour instead of black - this can be changed by selecting the text then changing its colour to black and not registration
- Bird 1 has been scaled down - same method as before, re-scale in Photoshop.
Using the separations view we noticed the bottom 2 spot colours were not used.
The links panel helped to identify the missing link
The links panel also allows you to see information on the images.
This identified which images had been scaled or had the wrong colour profile.
