Final Printed Nets

Original Products

UKF Final Products

I am happy with the overall product packaging range. I kept with the speaker
theme throughout as I wanted consistency amongst the products.
I definitely prefer the lighter coloured speakers, I think the contrast works well.
The all dark speakers don't work as well. If I were to change anything I would of
liked to print on shiny stock, to give a better finish. It might look more like a speaker
with a different finish. It would of been nice to emboss the actual speaker parts.
It would of been nice to have some sort of texture to the packaging and add a realistic
feel to the design.

Net Designs

To start with I drew up my nets on illustrator measuring them with a ruler, then keying the values into illustrator. I chose to go with the speaker design as UKF is a record label for drum n bass and dubstep music. I thoughts this   could make for some interesting packaging.

I started going with blue black and white but I think the black stood out
too much so I decided to keep it simple and just go with blue and white
I then drew up a handle to go on the side of the speaker packing.
 UKF logo
When I had the basics down I started adding the detail
creating the speaker panels and adding UKF stickers to
brand the packages.

After reassessing the colours of the packaging I decided to change the background
blue to be more similar to the UKF bag I received as it creates a better contrast
between the speaker casing and the features.

Crit Feedback FINAL REGAGE PRODUCTS

In todays crit we brought in our 3 products which extended on from our History of Brief. I found this session really helpful. I felt allot more comfortable analysing others work in professional manner, it was quite easy to give constructive criticism at this stage in the year. Last year crits were rather daunting but I feel this year is going to be allot easier.

  • Could of included the roots of the tree with the type.
  • Printing on wood could of been nice. Laser cutter?
  • Either edit the text or ticket holder or edit ticket to 'get your ticket' or state not a real ticket in the flyer to show its promoting. Get rid of speaker image in the leaflet

I agree with the comments made, all the statements made were things I had already thought about. If I had more time I would of played about more with the designs. It would of been nice to print on nicer stock too. I would like to experiment more with more organic materials. It would of been nice to make a real ticket too with perferate edges.

Branding and Identity

In todays session we each brought in our items for both packaging and branding and identity we made lists of High, middle and low quality items. We disagreed on a few items but generally all had the same idea. We looked at things like the complexity of the design, the concept, colours and so on.

Part 2

In the afternoon session with Lorraine we were asked to take one example of our packages and break it appart. From here we had to draw out the net 100 times and then chose our 5 logos from our Identity items and rebrand the packaging using the 5 logos. We were expected to do 20 per brand, I only managed to get up to 24 designs overall, but as the session went on I came up with different solutions to the problem. I took into consideration the different print processes that I could use when designing the packaging, I tried to incorporate a bit of colour to make it a bit more visually interestiong. I played about with the style, size and possition of the logo I also tried to change it slightly to see what works well.

Here I started looking at the UKF logo. UKF are a music company that promote
drum and bass and dubstep music. They organise events and have recently become
a real record label. Their logo is quite simple but readable. The blue colour works well
its not too garish. I tried to consider how the package would look intact. Some
designs work allot better than others.
Here are more UKF packages. I then started looking at the Mothers of India Fragrances
the packaging for this was quite simple but I thought there was allot you can do with it. The
logo is simple but really nice. I think foiling would be a nice process for this packaging.
