TRY SOMETHING NEW POSTER IDEAS

I have created a few posters to advertise our music sharing campaign. I have kept to a simple colour scheme so all the works fit together well. Here are my design ideas:
I started by drawing some speaker silhouettes
with the pen tool
I have used the same font throughout
Adding the information
 Alternative type colours

I added a crowd to give a good vibe
 banner type idea

Disco ball Idea
 Vinyl Idea
I will speak to the group tomorrow to see what they think
I like this as it is simpler
 Alternative poster?
Vinyl Text?
I have edited this poster a bit since the original
I have edited the text so it reads better

TRY SOMETHING NEW // REGGAE ALBUM DESIGN

I have chosen my genre to be REGGAE, I have a good interesting in reggae anyway so this is not a problem. To start with I came up with various different ideas on paper. I thought about all the things I asociate with Reggae, such as :
  • Rastas
  • Ganja
  • Africa
  • Lion of Judah
  • Haille Sallasi I
  • Jamaica
Here are a few Ideas I came up with:

I decided to Play about on Illustrator first playing with Reggae symbols. I drew out a CD sleeve net and worked ontop of them.
After looking at various reggae albums I decided I wanted to create something with a hand rendered feel to it so I drew my design on paper then scanned it in.
First of all I drew out the nets

I decided to use the lion of Judah and a ganja leaf to represent Reggae
I think the repeat pattern works well
I decided to create a hand drawn cover to first of all I drew it out
Next I changed the contrast and brightness on Photoshop to make
the lines clearer and easier to live trace
I then live traced the image in Illustrator
I decided to choose purple and black as the 2 colours
we will use an off white creamy stock.

Here are the final Outcomes. I will ask the group which they prefer
tomorrow, my personal favorites are the bottom left and middle top
Illustrated beard works better?

Here is a trial CD sleeve I made to see if a CD would
fit in it. I am happy with the size and pattern used.
 Lion of Judah

I really like the pattern here. I think I need to incorporate the purple
into the pattern though as its lacking some colour.

CD RESEARCH

From our crit on Friday our plan has changed. We have decided to Create 25 CD's, 5 from each genre. The genres we have chosen are:
  • Reggae/Ska
  • Rock n Roll
  • Motown
  • Hip Hop
  • Indie
The concept behind it is :Getting to try new music, we will pass out CD's round the class and get them to have a listen and post some feedback to a twitter account / Facebook page. From here we can respond with information on the artists and where they are playing in the area.
We will create some kind of informational poster and leaflet on what we are trying the achieve this will include information on each genre.

We will only include tracks with artists that are playing in Leeds.

I have been given the genre of reggae, using allgigs.co.uk I have found artists that are playing in Leeds soon. I have had a look on youtube and have chosen some songs I will include on my Mix CD.

TRY SOMETHING NEW // LOGO DEVELOPMENT

Concept
'get people to try something new'

The Problem
how can students in Leeds be encouraged to listen to and experience new music, different to their usual choice of genre?

Rationale
- to encourage people to branch out from music genres they know and love and experience the diverse music scene in Leeds as a student

- to help promote some of the different music nights/gigs etc. that go on in Leeds

Audience
students in Leeds

Method of Delivery
  • x5 different cd designs (five different genres of music), 5 copies of each cd; 25 cd's in total to be circulated
  • each cd will have five tracks on by different artists (relevant to selected genre) that are playing upcoming gigs in Leeds
  • the cd will be packaged with details about a Twitter page that allows for us to collect feedback and respond to people about music in Leeds as well as allowing us to measure our success
  • we will also produce a poster to help promote the campaign around college
  • Twitter page will be used to give information back to the users on up and coming gigs.

Context
  • student union, library, graphic design studio, around college etc.

Name & Logo
Emily and I spent a night creating logos on illustrator, it took a lot of adjusting and experimenting in order to get something that we were both happy with, we will then show the design ideas to the group and make a decision on how we market ourselves.

We came up with various names but overall we think 'Fresh' works well as it signifies new, which is relevant to our new music campaign.

the idea of the logo is that the arrows in the record represent the concept of music of different genres getting passed around and listened to by different people

'change your tune' was a slogan idea we tried out to accompany the branding package

this was the artboard used on Illustrator with all our ideas and designs as they developed
